The Team Lineup

As of last week, the ball have begun rolling for the 2009 Television News Presenter Competition (LPBT, Lomba Presenter Berita Televisi) at the Communication Science Department at Petra U. I can see that I'm potentially having a "power team" in my hands. The core team that we've assembled consists of dedicated, creative and spirited individuals. I haven't known the members of the team for long but I have a good feeling about this team.

Angel and Itol, my department chairs, belong to the type of people who I'd like to call "running" people. There are those who live life as though they are brisk walking but these two are different. They's like two sides of a coin. Angel is the smooth, calm and controlling type while Itol is the fiery, witty and uninhibited type. I'm more proud to have them on board knowing that she is a great student, better than what many teachers would expect and he is the one student out of hundreds who left me awestruck after a two-hour long discussion on religion as a human construct.

Mel-bee, another running person, have proved to be a very systematic worker and thinker who doesn't hesitate to go an extra mile to get things done. I have high hopes for Metha, who, in spite of being a girl with few words, has been fully devoted to the team spirit. Mona, well, what can I say? Aside from being one of the sharpest students in my English class, she's got talent as well. I can't wait to see the result of her work. Erin, I've always known you had gold in you. Let's work on those papers!

Ndut, there is something behind your laughs, buddy. I saw a committed person ever since the time I interviewed you. Cilik, let's build a new generation of LPBT with people like you! Chung, your thoughts and contributions have shown to be very promising. I'm happy to have you in the team. Haniel, another man of few words, who has proven himself reliable in every way. Last but certainly not least, Rendy, what can I say, you're certainly one of the treasures of LPBT.

Lilies and Pipiet, welcome aboard. I'm waiting in eager expectation for you to add your color to our team.

This is the team. Next step formulate our vision, our plans and steps ahead and make this year's LPBT a success. We can achieve anything if we put our hearts and minds into it!

LPBT TEAM, LET'S ROCK THIS YEAR!!!

The Rain

Yesterday, Germany made it to the final of the Euro after a dramatic showdown with Turkey. Bravo Turkey for their unrelenting fight. A heavy rain disrupted the satellite, so the world couldn’t see both Turkey’s and Germany’s second goals. But all is well that ends well. Thumbs up for Philip Lahm!

As Basel was drizzling last night and Vienna is pouring this evening, so was Siwalankerto drenched a few hours ago. Rain has always had a special meaning for me. Sitting in front of the window as a little girl watching the water drops, first time being trapped in my Manila third floor studio apartment as a graduate student waiting for the typhoon to pass by (I finished The Da Vinci Code because of it, by the way), the sudden heavy rain that caused a rather peculiar involvement with a political activist (the first and the only one of its kind), and a damning experience I’d rather not touch on.

Anyways, if only last night were raining, I’d have had a reason to say, hey, I’ve got another rain-worthy memory—positive or negative is left open to interpretation. Instead, it was dry and windy. Actually, inside, there were some fluids, fermented ones, that is, plus a delightful chat. No bodily fluid whatsoever was involved, just to rectify any corrupted minds… I have no choice but to think that my mind—however corrupted it is—is unbendingly resilient when it comes to the physical department.

The Rain II

Let’s see if the rain will mark a pleasant surprise this evening. It’s seventy minutes into the game and Spain is playing very good ball and have scored one goal. Let’s just hope Pavilyuchenko will be able to blow me away.

Seventy three minutes just passed and Spain just scored another goal through Güiza. They are having a commanding lead over the Russians.

Another goal from Silva in the 81st minute. This is vintage Spanish game, the commentator suggests. Without doubt, this is one of the most entertaining games thus far.

90 minutes, and Spain is in the finals! What a sumptuous final it will be on Sunday. It’s 3-0 for Spain who has waited for 24 years. It looks like Spain is going to be singing in the rain.

Viva La España & Hals und Beinbruch, Deutschland!
